Chiefly papers of the family of the Rev. John Huske Tillinghast of the Prostetant Episcopal Church consisting primarily of correspondence and other papers of his children, William Norwood, Mildred Lewis, and Jane Norwood Tillinghast; documents re religious affairs, including texts or notes for sermons, and material describing the lives of Mildred and Jane; wedding invitations; and photographs. Bound volumes include diary of William Norwood Tillinghast, 1887, 1901-1902, 1909, 1912-1913, with entries re his entry into the South Carolina Military Academy, 1887, and his activities as a minister of the Protestant Episcopal Church in Ridgeway, Estill, Fort Motte, and Woodville, S.C., and Washington, Va. Diary also includes text of an address delivered at an Odd Fellows Meeting in Washington, Va., 9 Dec. 1908. Correspondents include Ellison Capers, George W. Johnston, and Cameron Farquhar McRae.
